20m ROAD RACE RESULTS
With the time trials over, it was time to put on a road race and as the riders have improved so much over the summer, it was decided to make it a long one. So the 20 mile road race ran from the top of the Cloughjordan road to Ardcroney via Cloughjordan and Borrisokane.
It was good to see Patrick Rohan out for a race once again and we also welcomed Adam Noble to our races for the first time.
Eight riders came in together with Shane Scully leading the charge as the fastest rider. On his wheel was Paul Lenihan with Louis Moloney on his wheel. Patrick Rohan was also in that group as were Mikey Connors and Jim Carey, a great race from both men.
When the time adjustments were put in place, it was Mikey Connors who took the event by a whisker from Jim Carey, while Paul Lenihan was an excellent third.
Racing now takes a break toallow for holidays and the next event is a Points Sprint Race on August 26th.
J.MOYNAN TT SERIES – TT6 AND OVERALL RESULTS
The J. Moynan TT Series came to an end last Thursday after the riders had completed the course of 10.4 miles over the past six weeks. We started in glorious sunshine but the final two weeks were rather miserable although there was no wind on the last one.
TT6 saw several riders improve their times quite significantly and as a result John Spillane (Rockford) took 3rd place while Mikey Connors stormed home to 2nd spot and a flying Louis Moloney claimed his first club win.
With the six TTs done and dusted, it was time to get the calculator out and see who had won the event and the flat time event. Four out of six events counted towards the results and anyone doing the six had a chance to throw out any bad times. When all the permutations had been calculated, Eamon Hartnett took the flat time overall result with Will Murphy in 2nd and Mike O'Keeffe in 3rd. The event winner was John Foote, for the second year in a row with Duncan Hodgins in 2nd and Mikey Connors, in his first year with the club, taking 3rd. The award for the fastest time in the series went to Shane Scully who did 24.45 in TT6 and the most improved prize went to John Foote who improved the course time by 3mins 48. The stage winners were Keith Butler, John Caulfield, John Foote, Kevin Sherlock, Brian O'Neill and Louis Moloney. Well done to all the winners and thanks to the sponsors J. Moynan's.
J. MOYNAN TT SERIES – RESULT OF TT5 – 8/7/10
It was a miserable evening - misty rain and a sneaky cross wind that didn't do the contestants any favours. In spite of the conditions, five riders managed to improve on their times. The fastest man on the night was Eamon Hartnett, fresh from his cycling exploits in France last weekend and he managed his best time to date - 25.11.
Will Murphy was the second place man while Brian O'Neill stormed home third. When the time adjustments were made, third place went to Duncan Hodgins and an ever-improving John Spillane (Ballyanny) took second while Brian O'Neill took his first club win.
The final TT in the J.Moynan Series is next Thursday evening and we will discover who the winner is!
J. MOYNAN TT SERIES – No.4
With the Borrisokane road finally back to normality, we were able to hold TT4 on Thursday 1st July. There was a very strong wind which made it very hard for the contestants and most times were higher.
However, Joe Cantwell improved his previous times to be the fastest man on the night. Kevin Sherlock took second and Keith Butler was third. When the time adjustments were applied Kevin Sherlock just managed to edge Joe out of first place by one second and John Foote was just behind him.
With just two more to go, anything could happen. The next one, TT5 is next week - 8/7.
LA MARMOTTE
The club wishes members Eamon Hartnett, Shane Scully, Mike O'Keeffe and Liam Callaghan the very best of luck tomorrow on their riding of La Marmotte in France. It entails the climbing of Col du Glandon, Col du Telegraphe and the Col du Galibier finishing with the climb and mountain top finale on the infamous Alpe d'Huez.
J. MOYNAN SERIES – TT4
The roadworks on the Borrisokane road are finished and the road is once again in a state suitable for racing so the TT4 which was deferred last Thursday, will go ahead this Thursday 1st July at the usual time. Meeting place Moynan's shop at 7pm but riders can go straight to the start at Ardcroney if it suits.
J. MOYNAN TT SERIES – TT3
Already, the TT series is half-way through and so far the weather has been just beautiful although the wind has been a little unhelpful at times!
TT3 saw a reversal of fortunes once again as Eamon Hartnett claimed back the fastest club time just three seconds ahead of Will Murphy with Mike O'Keeffe in third. But the event winner was the ever-improving John Foote, who betterd the previous weeks time by a minute while John McCarthy who also improved his time was second and Vic Nott just edged out Denis O'Meara for third, both men having improved their times.
J.MOYNAN TT SERIES – TT2
The numbers of participants are growing and last Thursday saw one of the largest sign-ons ever for the Wheelers.
It was a perfect night for racing - cool and calm, but by the time the riders had finished, they were anything but cool and calm!
The fastest club time of the night went to Will Murphy, 25.10 who was just 6 secs. ahead of last weeks fastest rider, Eamon Hartnett. Mike O'Keeffe finished third fastest in 25.42. René Van Dam (Unattached) clocked the time of 24.02.
When the time adjustments were made, Will Murphy hung on to third spot while last year's overall winner, John Foote took second and the event winner was the veteran rider John Caulfield, who on flat time had ridden the impressive time of 30.02.
J. MOYNAN TT SERIES – No.1
It was a lovely bright, sunny summers evening for a TT but there was a very strong wind that was sometimes across them and sometimes a head wind but it made for a very hard ride. The route was from the Borrisokane side of Ardcroney, round the roundabout at the end of the bypass and back to the starting point - a distance of 10.4 miles. Eamon Hartnett clocked the fastest time of 25.15 with Keith Butler following closely on 25.33 and Mike O'Keeffe on 26.02. Several people had exceptional rides including John McCarthy and Brian O'Rourke while Vic Nott made a highly creditable time on his return from injury. When the handicaps were put in place, 3rd. place went to John O'Carroll while John McCarthy claimed 2nd. spot just 10 seconds behind Keith Butler, the victor on the night. Well done to all - and it will be done all over again next Thursday night in TT 2. There are six TTs altogether with a riders four best times to count. Meeting place is Moynan's at 7pm but anyone under pressure of work can go straight to the start point past Ardcroney.
SPRINT POINTS RACE – No. 2
The second of the Sprint Points races were held last Thursday evening and there were ten really exciting laps between the two roundabouts - Donal Ryan's to the one at the foot of the bypass, a lap of 1.9 miles.
Jim Carey did an excellent job on his first Points Race and Mikey Connors took a well-earned third spot in Round 9.
The final result saw a tie for third place between Jim Carey and Eamon Hartnett while Will Murphy claimed second spot but is there any stopping Shane Scully in the Sprint Races? He was the outright winner - 11 points ahead of Will. In the last two seasons we have, so far, run five Points Races and Shane has won four of them! And the reason that he didn't win all five - he was missing for the fifth! Well done, Shane, we salute your achievements!
